COLLEGE COUNSELING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
Our Standard Program is sequenced to guide upperclassmen through all phases of the college preparation, search, and admissions process from start to finish. If your student is still in 9th or the first half of 10th grade, click here to access options for underclassmen.
Each phase includes a guaranteed minimum of four work sessions and access to all appropriate resources. Depending on the season, students in the Standard Program typically meet with their counselor 1-2 times per month with the goal of reaching the application finish line by mid-November of senior year. Even though we recommend that most students complete all phases in sequence, we’ll evaluate their needs and make a custom proposal for them after the new student consultation.
We are happy to take on new students at any point during junior or senior year, but due to recent increases in demand for college counseling services, we recommend that you schedule a new student consultation as soon as you are ready to begin! PHASE 1: SELF-DISCOVERY & SELF-MARKETING
Ideal start: early to mid junior year.
In this phase, students solidify their list of key college criteria, learn about the holistic college admissions process and develop a self-marketing plan to best showcase their skills, talents, and experiences on college applications. Other topics might include creating a resume, developing references and soliciting letters of recommendation, exploring majors & discovering interests, academic planning & course registration, summer break planning and/or college interview prep.
PHASE 2: COLLEGE EXPLORATION AND LIST BUILDING
Ideal start: early to late junior year.
In this phase our students learn about college search tools, maximizing the college visit experience, and how to demonstrate interest to colleges. In addition to being tasked to do their own research and exploration, students will receive a preliminary list of colleges to explore from their counselor. When the time is right, we’ll deliver a balanced, individually curated final list of recommended colleges that align with their academic, social-emotional, and financial key criteria.
PHASE 3: WRITING THE PERSONAL STATEMENT
Ideal start: summer between junior and senior year.
In this phase, students brainstorm and write a well-polished personal statement for their college applications. Students also receive frequent critical, unbiased feedback from our team of expert essay coaches, ensuring that final products are creative, compelling, and professionally vetted.
PHASE 4: WRITING SUPPLEMENT ESSAYS
Ideal start: summer between junior and senior year.
In this phase, students learn how to use winning strategies to write excellent supplement essays for their college applications. Students also receive frequent critical, unbiased feedback from their counselor and our team of expert essay coaches, ensuring that final products are creative, compelling, and professionally vetted. We also help transition their resume into a polished Common Application activities list.
PHASE 5: COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
Ideal start: fall of senior year.
In this final 2-session phase, students receive support and guidance throughout completing the Common Application. We’ll also create a sound, data-supported application strategy for submitting test scores and applications ahead of deadlines. Once applications are completed, we will audit completed applications for errors & omissions.
